Stickman

Master the Fundamentals

Before attempting Veteran difficulty, make sure the two foundational mechanics are automatic: the combo timing window and the dodge invincibility frame. Both require muscle memory rather than conscious thought at higher levels. Spend the first few sessions on Recruit and Soldier stages specifically to burn these into instinct, even after you could clear them easily on auto-pilot.

The other key fundamental is enemy prioritisation. On waves with multiple opponents, always attack flanking enemies first — they reach you faster and interrupt your chain if ignored. Only after the flanks are clear should you focus resources on the central or heaviest enemy in the wave.

Think Before You Act

The most common mistake in Stickman is reacting to hits rather than wind-ups. Every enemy telegraphs their attack with a brief animation before the hit lands. Reacting to the hit is already too late — it will connect before your dodge input registers. Train yourself to watch for the wind-up and trigger the dodge the moment you see it.

On boss encounters, resist the urge to attack constantly. Spend the first complete attack cycle in a defensive posture, observing the pattern. Boss phases follow a fixed sequence every time. One full observation round costs you some score but saves you from multiple unnecessary deaths caused by unfamiliar phase transitions.

Recognise Patterns Early

After clearing the Soldier tier, you will start recognising enemy groupings by their composition. A wave of two flankers with one shielded central enemy always requires the same opening: clear left flank, clear right flank, break the shield, then combo. Recognising this formation on sight rather than improvising each time saves seconds of reaction time per encounter.

Elite waves introduce mixed groups of three or four enemy types simultaneously. The fastest route through these is to identify the single shielded enemy immediately and plan the wave around breaking that shield first. Shielded enemies do not attack while their shield is active, so they are a controllable element in an otherwise unpredictable wave.

Advanced Techniques

At Legendary difficulty, power-up timing becomes the primary differentiator between clears and failures. The damage multiplier and the speed boost must be combined: grab the speed boost first to close the distance to clustered enemies, then immediately collect the multiplier and execute the combo. The speed boost extends the window in which the multiplier is active because you reach enemies faster.

For perfect no-damage runs — which unlock the tier bonus score — prioritise the health restore only if you have already taken damage. On a clean run, every health restore you collect represents a wasted power-up slot that could have been a damage multiplier. Discipline around power-up selection is the defining skill of Legendary-tier play.
